This April, we launch our second Reading Club, bringing the joy of books and storytelling to more young hearts in Winterveld. We’re thrilled to have Refiloe, our experienced facilitator from Ramotse, on board, as she serves as a mentor in the next phase of the program.
She recently led a one-week facilitator training, and will continue walking alongside our new reading facilitators as they begin their journey after the school holidays.
The ripple effect of reading
In the communities we serve, literacy is not just another school subject – for many, it is a lifeline. So many of the children in our Reading Clubs come from homes where they aren’t able to get consistent support from their parents with their reading and their overall education. For these kids, learning to read is about more than academic progress. It opens doors to confidence, imagination, and a future filled with possibilities.
A child who learns to read today could one day pass on the skill to their mother, father, or grandmother. That’s the quiet power of this program: it plants seeds not only in our children but in entire households, creating a ripple effect.
Turning pages and changing lives
When a child opens a book, they enter a world of wonder, and begin to believe in a world that can change. Our Reading Clubs are small but mighty steps toward long-term community growth – one word, one page, one child at a time.
